Em Whitfield Brooks

Em obtained a Drama degree from Hull University where she specialised in direction, then trained in circus and physical theatre at Fool Time in Bristol, and worked as actress and clown, performing on the Fringe at five Edinburgh Festivals in street theatre and straight theatre, before concentrating on directing.

She has taught theatre, musical theatre, voice and performance skills at Thomas Danby College in Leeds, York St John's University and Leeds College of Music; she works extensively in education, working part time for The Sage Gateshead for seven years, and is founder/director of Ryedale Festival Community Opera, now in its thirteenth year.

Beckett's Waiting for Godot and Bond's The Sea for 1812 Theatre Company, Britten's Noye's Fludde for BBC Choir of the Year 2008 Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir, Tim Brooks's The Fall of Creation and Tim Harrison's The Crucifixion for Durham Mysteries 2010 and the Angus and Ross productions of The Mystery of Irma Vep and Frankenstein Live.

She is director of Hull Freedom Chorus, Artistic Director of Helmsley Arts Centre and one half of vocal duo The Ruby Larks.
